I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one that spends way too much time doing the dishes, I honestly feel I spend more time doing the dishes than any other housekeeping activity.

So I began thinking that it was probably smart to look for a way of creating my own liquid dishwasher soap. It was probably the eco-conscious thing to do too, and probably the healthy  thing as well (using less weird chemicals is probably something we are all interested in).

Homemade liquid dish soap

The thing with making your own dish soap is that you want it to clean. But like really get in there to win the battle against grease and that’s honestly a difficult thing to get with most DIY versions.

You also want it to sanitize and get rid of odor and bacterias and while  it’s not a must you probably also want it to have a pleasant scent.

So if you want to get all those things there are a couple of ingredients you need to get:

Castile soap:

It gives your liquid dishwasher soap most of its cleaning power while also giving your soap some suds. Castille soap is also what we use to make our DIY all natural bathroom cleaner.

Vinegar is the hero in this soap. It’s the one that gets rid of the grease and also responsible for leaving your glasses sparkling and streak free.

Lemon juice:

It helps in keeping the hard water spots at bay which I honestly love because I love to have super clear looking glasses. And hey if you are struggling with hard water, then make sure to check this post on how to treat our hard water.

Salt:

This is a total must! Salt is abrasive so it makes the scrubbing process easier. It also works alongside vinegar to get rid of smells and bacteria.

Essential oils

To leave your dishes with a pleasant, clean scent! I love to use lemon essential oil in all my house cleaning, but you are free to use any essential oil you like.

How long does liquid dishwasher soap last

While it can last for a while I prefer to make a fresh batch every 2 weeks to make sure all the components are at peak performance.

Place all the ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine.
Pour the mix into a bottle and place right next to your sink.
