How to Create a Transitional Style Living Room

1. Swap basic overhead lighting for unique pendant lights

Why settle for a builder-grade overhead light when you can make a statement? These modern globe pendants are stunning without being too flashy ornate.

2. Adorn shelves with minimal accessories

It can be tempting to load up your shelves with numerous books and trinkets. But sometimes less is more. Draw attention to small groups of books placed on different shelves and minimal accessories in a monochromatic palette. The glass shelving is great for being there but not taking up visual space, too.

3. Find a traditional sectional

For larger living spaces, you can’t go wrong with a traditional sectional. Seating is the main function of a living room! We love how the warm brown of this sofa adds nice contrast to the room while also being practical (hiding dirt with kids is a must).

4. Select a modern coffee table

This sleek modern coffee table acts as both a foot rest and display area. To achieve a similar look and functionality, choose a coffee table with ample surface space and clean lines.

5. Anchor the neutral color palette with a large rug

Want a light colored rug that doesn’t readily show stains and dirt? Opt for a large rug with a neutral color pattern. The cream, gray, and taupe tones seen here is perfect for the space–practical and pretty.

6. Create more seating with modern armchairs and ottomans

Extra seating is always a plus in a living room. In keeping with the transitional style, modern arm chairs and stools compliment the traditional sectional.
