6 Ways to Make Your House Visitor-Friendly

There are so many reasons why we love remodeling. It makes our space beautiful to look at, functional for our family, and of course DIY’s are fun to put together. However, there is another important reason we love making our home a wonderful place to be, and that’s for guests to enjoy your space too!

As summer approaches, many of us are looking at our space and trying to brainstorm how we can prepare to be good hosts. There are so many different ways that you can make your house beautiful, enjoyable, and functional for guests who come to your home that we could never address them all, but today we wanted to highlight some of our new favorite ideas to go the extra mile and make your home a welcoming space for hosting friends and family.

1. A Beautiful Farmhouse Dining Table

One of the biggest reasons most people have guests over is for dinner! I can’t think of a more welcoming piece of furniture than a nice kitchen table.

You can build your very own rustic farmhouse dining table for less than $100, and it is guaranteed to look perfect in your farmhouse kitchen space. In our house, everyone is welcome through our front door, and a beautiful, large dinner table is one of those extra touches that communicates that message to all who enter. Building your own is a good idea because it saves you a ton of money, and doesn’t take much work. It completely changes the vibe of your dining room!

2. Build Space-Saving Deck Benches

There’s nothing better than sitting out on your deck with your loved ones, drinking some refreshing lemonade and watching the kids play in the backyard. However, this beautiful image of being a good host doesn’t always seem doable if you lack the space for bulky porch furniture, and don’t have a comfortable place to relax.

If you have a small deck, but you still want to host large groups of friends and family, don’t fret! This woodworking hack will go a long way in making your small house feel spacious and ready for any home guest. I can walk you through the entire process of creating customized deck benches perfect for any size of deck! This trick can be used on any size of deck, although it’s particularly helpful for smaller ones that furniture just won’t fix.

If you’re a visual learner like me, you’ll greatly appreciate all the diagrams and the video I’ve included to make the process easy for you. No more wishing you could host in the way you want to. Simply build these cheap benches, and watch your hosting dreams come to life!

3. Decorate Your Concrete Patio

Another common problem folks have with their patio is that it’s a dull concrete square that they don’t know how to make feel more home-y, and they’re not sure how to leave a good impression. Once again, I’ve got all your bases covered! I’ve compiled 9 ways to give your concrete patio a makeover. There are so many small things you can do, from throw pillows to entire DIY makeovers, that can make your house the perfect home.

You never have to feel bad about the way your backyard looks. Your guests will love the transformed space. It will make them feel completely at home, and ready to party, or to relax and enjoy the summer breeze.

4. A Toilet Paper Holder That Doubles as a Phone Holder

It’s 2022, and most of us are carrying our phones around in our back pockets. There is no worse feeling than realizing you’ve dropped your phone in the toilet, and that’s absolutely not a feeling you want your guests to have.

Sometimes the smallest thoughtful gestures can say, “hey guests, we’re thinking of you,” and one of those little things is this toilet paper holder that has a phone holder on top. This little contraption is one of the best ways to transform your space from bathroom to restroom, because your guests will be completely at ease knowing their phone is safe and sound, and not getting wet on the bathroom counter. And, of course, you can enjoy using it the whole time you live there. Bonus points if you provide some reading material for your house guests!

5. A Giant Inflatable Projector Screen

If you’re the kind of person who loves to have a lot of guests over at a time, you know how awkward it can be to make sure everyone in the room can see your TV at a movie night. Well, say goodbye to that uncomfortable situation by adopting the “go big or go home” mindset.

This jumbo inflatable movie screen is a great way to wow your guests and make sure everyone can see the movie perfectly, since there is plenty of space in your backyard, and the screen will be in plain sight. No more worrying about trying to cram everyone into the living room, and having to have guests sit on the floor. Invite everyone to bring their picnic blankets and lawn chairs, and host a big movie night.

This idea provides sensory experiences that are a lot of fun for your guests, and it works great for events like birthday parties, the 4th of July, and any other summer shindigs you find yourself hosting. Guests love it, and they’ll never forget it! The most important thing is to make sure you have some extra blankets around for guests who didn’t bring one.

6. Build an In-Ground Trampoline

If you regularly host groups of children, it can be tough to figure out how to entertain them. If you’re sick of pulling out the same old movies and video games, and you’re a bit worried about the safety factor of an above-ground trampoline, dig a big hole and throw a trampoline on top! Fun aspects like this leave a good first impression for guests, and make your backyard a welcoming environment for kids who might otherwise be nervous or shy.

If that sounds like a daunting task, check out the full breakdown of how our neighbor did it in his own backyard. If he can do it, you can too! We have a blog post and a video to help you build your very own. No kid will be bored at your house when you have a trampoline in the ground, and their parents will thank you for the solitude of some alone time with the other adults indoors or on the porch.
